South Africa tour of India 2022

Second ODI first innings update

The visitors, who had won the toss and decided to bat. Quickly reached 278 for seven in 50 overs thanks to some excellent batting from Aiden Markram and Reeza Hendricks.

In their match against India at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. South Africa posted a commanding 278/7 score thanks to half-centuries from Reeza Hendricks (74 runs from 76 balls) and Aiden Markram (79 runs from 89 balls).

Partnership

For the third time in the Proteas’ innings, the pair put on a 129-run partnership as undefeated batsman David Miller, who was unbeaten on 35 off 34 balls, was unable to put the finishing touches on the innings.

Indian Bowlers

The Indian bowlers bowled well as a group, but Mohammed Siraj stood out with three key wickets off Quinton de Kock, Hendricks, and Keshav Maharaj. He completed his spell with efficient stats of 3/38 in 10 overs. He bowled a magnificent final over in which he got a wicket and allowed only three runs.

Avesh Khan was the only Indian bowler without a wicket, as Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed, Shardul Thakur, and Kuldeep Yadav all shared one wicket between them. The bowlers turned things around in the last over to restrict South Africa to less than 300 target.

Must Need Breakthrough for India

Together Markram and Hendricks rebuilt the SA innings as the pair batted positively and regularly smashed boundaries to keep the scoreboard moving. The much-needed breakthrough for India came when Siraj once more dismissed Hendricks for 75. Hendricks’ comeback innings saw 9 fours and a six scored, helping South Africa reach a reasonable target to defend.

Markram, meanwhile, was removed by Washington Sundar on 79 after failing to turn his fifty into a triple-digit total. During his 89-ball stint in the middle, he hit seven fours and a six.

South Africa’s valuable contributions in the last overs

While Heinrich Klaasen (30) and Wayne Parnell (16) produced some noteworthy contributions, Miller was the one who enabled them to surpass 275. The lefty had some trouble getting going at first, but he remained undefeated for 35 runs.

India needs 279 runs to win the match and level the three-match ODI series.
