Harmanpreet, Renuka shine as India beat England in 2nd ODI to secure series

India were in dominant form as they defeated England by 88 runs to clinch the three-match series 2-0 in the second T20I, at St Lawrence Stadium in Canterbury on Wednesday.

Chasing a target of 334 runs, England were bowled out for 245 in 44.2 overs with Renuka Singh taking four wickets for India.

Initially, India posted 333 for five in 50 overs, with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur playing an unbeaten knock of 143 runs off 111 balls.

IND-W Vs ENG-W 2nd ODI highlights

Invited to bat, India witnessed not a great start as the visitors lost their first wicket early. Smriti Mandhana and Yastika Bhatia then added 54 for the second wicket. Before Yastika left the field with a caught and ball dismissal.

India didn’t even crossed the 100-mark and the vice-captain Mandhana too walked back to the pavilion that put India in some pressure.

But a partnership of 113 for the fourth wicket between skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Harleen Deol soaked all the pressure. Their partnership drove India in a good position before Deol got out after playing a solid knock of 58.

The skipper, however, remained tall at the crease and soon completed her well-deserved century.

She smashed 18 fours and four maximums in her splendid knock of unbeaten 143 off just 111. Deepti’s handy 9-ball 15 at last also set the pace as India posted 333 for 5 in 50 overs.

In reply, England batters walked into the crease with a win-win approach. The Indian bowlers came with different approach as they removed the host’s top-3 batters when they didn’t even touch the 50-mark in a high chase game.

Danielle Wyatt scored the highest run for her side, but it wasn’t enough to drive the hosts over the line as they lost the match by 88 runs.

Apart from her Alice Capsey and Amy Jones both recorded 39 for the team.

Renuka Singh led the Indian bowling department in the second ODI. She took four crucial wickets in her impressive spell of 10 overs.

Dayalan Hemalatha bagged two wickets for India, while Deepti Sharma and Shafali Verma took a wicket each.

Player of the match

The skipper Harmanpreet Kaur won the player of the match award for her destructive yet unbeaten knock of 143 off 111.

With this win, India secured the three-match series 2-0.

The third and final match of the series will take place at Lord’s in London on September 24.
