Zimbabwe Cricket announced on Thursday that Regis Chakabva has been selected as captain for the forthcoming ODI series against Bangladesh (August 4). Craig Ervine, the team’s regular captain, has been given a break to assist him recuperate from recent aches and pains, therefore Chakabva will take over as captain.
Sean Williams, an all-around player, will also miss the series because he has been given time off to attend to personal concerns. The two veterans in the 15-member team have been replaced by Takudzwanashe Kaitano and Tarisai Musakanda.
Players that recently played in Zimbabwe’s T20I series win over Bangladesh make up the remainder of the team. The first game of the three-match ODI series is on August 5 in Harare, with the following two matches taking place there on August 7 and August 10.
Earlier, Zimbabwe defeated Bangladesh by 10 runs in the third T20I match in Harare to secure their first-ever series victory over a higher-ranked team. To the delight of the packed spectators, the host team rallied from 67 for 6 to finish on a respectable 156 for 8, then held Bangladesh to 146 for 8 in 20 overs.
Zimbabwe only recently win the T20 WC qualifiers to advance to the T20 World Cup. They had one defeated the West Indies in 2010. Then defeated Scotland 2-1 in 2021. And in 2019, they triumphed in a tri-nation competition in Singapore and Nepal. But in bilateral T20I cricket, this was their first-ever series victory over a Full Member.
