BCCI To Have Meeting Regarding Sponsorship Deals, Domestic Schedules Today

The Board of Control for Cricket India will have a number of significant decisions to be made at their forthcoming Apex Council Meeting on July 21. For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting will take place in person, according to the information available.

One of the issues on the meeting’s agenda is the discussion of the Byjus deal for the Indian team jersey and the BCCI title sponsorship arrangement with Paytm. The Apex Council meeting will also discuss schedules for the rest of the domestic season.

The BCCI will work to finalize sponsorship deals with PayTM and Byjus for the following seasons after the massive sale of the IPL media rights. Since 2015, PayTM has sponsored India’s domestic leagues. For a staggering sum of Rs. 326.80 crores, the business paid to extend the contract by four years in 2019.

Since 2019, BYJUS replaced Oppo as the official sponsor of India’s jersey. The brand supported by ITW Universe later extended their collaboration for another 18 months, until the end of 2023, in a deal that cost a remarkable $55 million.

The BCCI is anticipated to discuss the domestic schedules in addition to the sponsorship agreements. This year saw the return of the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, as well as the Irani Cup, Duleep Trophy, and Deodhar Trophy following the pandemic.

The BCCI’s dream project, the NCA, is expected to be discussed at the meeting, along with any changes at the Bengaluru base. Making it a model high-performance center of Indian cricket with significant investments in resources, facilities, and labour on the part of the Indian Cricket Board.

The committee will also need to approve the pension increases for retired cricket players and employees that BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced last month. The IPL and all other Indian matches are aired by Star India Private Limited, and the Council will also discuss an update on the bank guarantee from this company.
