Suryakumar says that he likes batting at No.4 for India

Suryakumar Yadav likes to play at 4th position. India’s 31-year-old wonder, has been devastating the cricket world since his debut in March last year. Given his T20 achievements, even Ricky Ponting lauded Suryakumar’s ability to maintain an air of unwavering confidence throughout the contest.

In a recent interview with the Times of India, Suryakumar was asked about his batting position and where would he like to bat in the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia. Talking about the important phase in the T20 format, Suryakumar Yadav said that “I have seen a lot of games where teams have a great powerplay and a strong finish, but I feel the most important period in a T20 game is from the eighth over to the 14th over. I have enjoyed myself most when I bat between overs seven and 15. I try to be positive in that phase.”

He further went on to say that “I have loved batting in every position: 1, 3, 4, 5. I feel that No.4 is a good position for me. The situation where I go to bat allows me to control the game.

When asked about the challenges faced by him while batting at the No.4 position, he said that “You need to press on the pedal harder in that phase. I try not to play too many risky shots. I try to play over cover and try to cut through points, run hard and keep the scoreboard ticking so that after the 15th over the finishers don’t have issues finishing the game. No.4 is also a challenging position to bat which is why I enjoy it.”

Suryakumar Yadav, the fourth-ranked batsman in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings, has played 28 T20Is and scored 811 runs at an average of 36.9 and a strike rate of 173.3. The 32-year-old has participated in 4 T20 Internationals as the opener, 7 games at the No. 3 position, 12 games at the No. 4 position, and 3 T20 Internationals at the No. 5 position.

Following the conclusion of the Asia Cup, the ICC revised the rankings for men’s T20. The hitters’ ranking now Virat Kohli is at 14 rank. His progress was driven by a brilliant Asia Cup performance in which he scored 276 runs in five innings at an average of 92.00 and a strike rate of 147.59, and Suryakumar Yadav is ranked fourth in the T20 World Rankings.

Hope Surya keeps up his current success and supports India on their forthcoming travels to South Africa and Australia, as well as the T20 World Cup.
