The 35-year-old southpaw from Uttar Pradesh announced retirement from the Indian Premier League and domestic cricket on Tuesday.  Suresh Raina, who is now more into cricket commentary box, is however going to maintain his association with the game by playing for other domestic and foreign leagues.

According to the news reports, Raina will be featuring in the upcoming second edition of Road Safety World Series 2022 for India Legends which is going to begin from September 10 in Kanpur.

The announcement was made nearly two years of his retirement from the international cricket on 15 August, 2020. He, then, announced his retirement soon after India ex-skipper, MS Dhoni, got retired from all formats of the game.

“It has been an absolute honour to represent my country & state UP. I would like to announce my retirement from all formats of Cricket. I would like to thank @BCCI, @UPCACricket, @ChennaiIPL, @ShuklaRajiv sir & all my fans for their support and unwavering faith in my abilities,” Raina said, on his Twitter account.

His association with the game was nothing but a cherishing moment for his fans, especially those of Chennai Super Kings (CSK). “The streets of Anbuden will never forget what Chinna Thala meant to each and every one of us! Thank You, Mr. IPL!”, the CSK franchise tweeted on its official Twitter account.

Meanwhile, the cricket fraternity began reacting to his decision with some players who shared space with Raina in the dressing room, thanking for his association with them.

India’s vice-captain KL Rahul thanked Raina and wished him best for his future prospects. “Thank you for all the wonderful memories on and off the field. Wishing you the best for your future endeavours,” Rahul tweeted.

Raina is soon going to play in other foreign leagues, apart from Road Safety World Series 2022, in which he will be seen sharing the dressing along with Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh. He is likely to play in the upcoming tournaments like Legends League Cricket, Big Bash League, SA20 League and Abu Dhabi T10 League.
