Vice-captain KL Rahul Backs Virat Kohli Ahead Of Big IND vs PAK Clash

IND vs PAK Clash in The Asia Cup 2022: India vice-captain K.L Rahul during the press conference ahead of the marquee event came out in support of former Indian skipper Virat Kohli, saying that the criticism from the outside has not bothered the former Indian skipper during the troubled times.

With the 15th edition of the Asia Cup going to start on August 27, India will play their first match against the arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday, August 28.

This game will mark Virat Kohli’s return from a break of more than a month.

The premium batter, who took a rest by not participating in the West Indies and then the Zimbabwe tour after having a dreary campaign in England recently, is going through a tough phase of his career as in almost the last 3 years, he hadn’t hit a single century, and many times failed to convert his starts.

KL Rahul, who also made a return in the last series against Zimbabwe after a 3-month break due to injury has supported Kohli and stated that Kohli’s mindset has always been to win matches for his country, and we are not worried as the Indian team about his form.

“He has had a little break and he is working on his game. I was at home watching him on television when I was injured and I didn’t feel like he looked out of form or out of touch. He was batting really well. He has obviously not been able to match up to the standards he himself has set and I am sure he is hungry to come out and win matches for the country. That is something he has always done throughout his career. His mindset has always been to win matches for his country. It was the case when he was captain and it is the same now.”

“If a player is in that mindset I am sure good things will happen. We all eagerly want Virat to get back to the Virat Kohli form that everybody is talking about (but) we are not worried as the Indian team and I am sure he is not worried.

We all want to get some game time. Obviously our main aim is the World Cup. By that time if the batters are in good nick by the World Cup or if the bowlers have played enough matches, they get enough confidence leading up to the tournament. That is our plan and what we will look to do as individuals and as a team,” said Rahul.

After the first match of the league stage of Asia Cup 2022, India will face Hong Kong in second game on August 31 at the Dubai International Stadium.
