Key 3 Reasons Why India Lost World Cup Semi-Final To England

Reasons Behind India’s Loss To England in Semis

Reasons behind India’s loss to England: England leveled the head-to-head equation with India with 2-2 in T20 World Cup history after defeating the Indian side by 10 wickets at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday.

It was a clear dominating performance from the English side as they just outlasted the men in blue in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022.

There was not even a single moment when India was in a position to change the game and we have to look at those points where the Rohit-led side fails in that crucial knockout match.

Let’s quickly look at the top 3 reasons behind India’s loss against England.

1. Reasons Behind India’s Loss To England: Opener’s Failure

Time and again Indian openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma once again failed to deliver on big match day.

KL Rahul, who struggled in the first matches of the tournament, showed some signs of back in form after registering two back-to-back half centuries in team’s last two Super 12 game.

But Rahul being Rahul, as he again failed to perform in a big game, he left the crease first after scoring just 5 to put the pressure on the other batters.

Rohit Sharma, the skipper of team India, was looking in difficulty while batting and scored just 27 and took 28 balls in that process, one of the reasons behind slow start for the Indian side.

However, his partnership with Virat Kohli was crucial if we only talk about India’s batting and don’t compare it with the England’s.

2. Reasons Behind India’s Loss To England: Finisher Chaos

India struggled in the whole competition to choose between Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant. After giving chances to Dinesh Karthik in first four games, who was selected in the team as the role of finisher, they shifted to Rishabh Pant, but both failed and whole Indian team and the fans paid the price for it.

Karthik, the designated finisher, only recorded just 14 runs in 4 innings, while maintaining a strike rate of 63.64.

While Rishabh Pant only scored just 9 runs in two games. He came into bat in the semi-final when the well-set Virat Kohli (50) left the crease. India was at 136 in 18 overs at that moment, but Pant got run-out in the final over for 6, and India managed to post 168 in 20, thanks to Hardik Pandya’s 63 off 33.

3. Reasons behind India’s Loss To England: Clueless bowling

It was like a cake walk for England to chase the 169-run target. There was not even a single point where Indian bowlers were seen dominating the game, or just try to grip them with tight bowling.

Bhuvneshwar, Arshdeep, Shami, Ashwin and Axar all went wicket-less, with four of them leaked runs with more than 11-run per over, while Arshdeep and Axar Patel gave runs with a 7.50 economy, but they also failed to grip as the English batters put on a completely dominating display and went on to win the game in just 16 overs.

England skipper Jos Buttler played a knock of unbeaten 80 off just 49, while Alex Hales smashed not out 86 in just 47 and showed a complete control over Indian bowlers in a 169-run chase semi-final game.
