Former Indian opener worried about Chahal’s form ahead of T20 World Cup

Chahal’s Form in T20Is ahead of WC: Following India’s loss in the first T20I between India and Australia, the former Indian Opener Wasim Jaffer expressed his concern about team India’s leading spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and also said that he would be interested in seeing what Ravi Bishnoi or Kuldeep Yadav would contribute to the table.

Following the calamity in the Asia Cup, Team India’s worries about the bowling unit persisted. The Indian bowlers once again struggled on Tuesday in the opening T20I match against Australia as they attempted to defend 208 runs.

With the exception of Axar Patel, all of the other bowlers conceded more than 10 runs per over throughout the game, which made it simple for the visitors to reach the target.

“I have seen that when the conditions are against him. He doesn’t seem to have a lot of variety,” said Jaffer on ESPNCricinfo. “I will be concerned going into that World Cup with Yuzvendra Chahal as my main spinner. I will be looking at Ravi Bishnoi, he gives you something different.”

Yuzvendra Chahal’s Recent Performance:

Chahal’s performance was far from stellar in opening game. The wrist spinner gave away 42 runs in 3.2 overs. He only managed to take the wicket of Tim David in the final over of the game.

Jaffer also said that while Harshal Patel’s rust is understandable. Given that he is recovering from an injury, Bhuvneshwar’s form is a matter of concern for the men in blue.

“I’ll be very concerned. Bhuvi hasn’t been at his best. We know he is very good at the start of the innings. But the way he has bowled in the death is a huge concern. You can sympathise with Harshal Patel. He is just coming out of an injury. It shows how dependent India are on Bumrah to bowl well up front. And then again in the death,” he said.

Similar to the Asia Cup, frontline pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s unavailability played a significant role in the death overs this time around as well-known players like Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yuzvendra Chahal struggled badly in the series opener.

The second match of three-match T20I series between India and Australia will take place on Friday, September 23 at the Vidharbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur.
