IND vs AUS First Innings Update: Australia after winning the toss decided to bat first and thought of setting a decent total to defend but things did not go as planned as the Aussis opener Mitchell Marsh was taken out by Jasprit Burmah for a duck. Which set up the tone for India early on in the game.

Australia scored 199/10 from 50 overs. Despite Indian spin pressure and dominance Australia managed to score a below-par score and if their bowling is on point, India will have a hard time chasing down the target of 200.

Steven Smith and David Warner both stitched 69 runs and things started to shift towards Australia. While, India made sure that the Aussies did not get easy runs and made the pressure with good deliveries.

But Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav turned to the occasion as he amazingly dismissed David Warner. Then after this second wicket it was India who made sure they picked up regular wickets.

Australian Batsman Crumble in front of Indian Spin Wizards

After Warner, it was Smith who walked back to the pavilion. Then Marnus Labuschagne also followed him as he was dismissed by yet again Ravindra Jadeja. Then it was only about a matter of time before India-picked spinners picked up a couple of wickets in quick succession, starting with Alex Carey, Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, and Aussies skipper Pat Cummins in the 43rd over.

The highest run scored by Australia was Steven Smith’s (47) while all other batsmen, with the exception of David Warner, were shut down by Indian spin bowlers. A depleted Australian squad was indeed crushed by India in the first two games of the three-match ODI series 10 days prior, but as soon as Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc returned for the dead-rubber, the Aussies appeared to be a completely different team.

Indian Bowlers on Point in the opening game

It was Jasprit Bumrah who started with the first wicket and then it was Indian bowlers who kept the pressure on and picked up wickets at regular intervals. Jasprit Bumrah picked up two wickets in his 10 overs and gave away only 35 runs.

Then it’s the spinners who stole the show starting with Ravindra Jadeja who picked up three wickets in 10 overs and gave away 28 runs. Kuldeep Yadav picked up two wickets, while Ravichandran Ashwin picked up one wicket.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya also played his part with the ball at the end as he picked up one wicket. Siraj also did not go back empty hands as he closed the Australian innings with a wicket of Mitchell Starc in the very last over.

India on the Run

India arguably still holds the edge. With their top players back from injuries, the Men in Blue have once again become a force to reckon with, clinching the Asia Cup and reasserting their dominance just before the World Cup.

Now with 200 runs to chase from 50 overs, India is in a good position to win their opening game, or can Australia pull up a magical bowling spell? Stay tuned as the match gets much more exciting.
