Rohit Sharma Biography

Rohit Sharma was born on 30 April 1987 in Nagpur, Maharashtra. He is an Indian right-hand batter. Rohit is the only batter in the world to hit three double centuries in ODI cricket. He holds the record for most runs in an innings in ODI. Due to his aggressive approach, he has been given the tag of ‘HITMAN’. Presently, Rohit is the captain of the Indian Cricket Team in all three formats. During his schooling days at Swami Vivekanand International school in Mumbai, Rohit played under coach Dinesh Lad who noticed his ability and coached him without any fee.

It comes as a surprise to say that in the beginning, Rohit was a spin bowler.

However, under Dinesh Lad he started playing as an opener and played many cricket tournaments that led to the rise of Ro’HIT’ Sharma.

Rohit Sharma Domestic Career

In 2005, Rohit Sharma made his debut in List A playing for West Zone in Deodhar Trophy where he scored a century against North Zone. After that he got selected for India A team. Rohit made his India A debut in July 2006. Rohit has been a part of the Mumbai Ranji team for his entire career.

In the same year, he made his Ranji trophy debut and played a crucial part for the team in lifting the trophy for the season. Later, In 2013-14 Rohit was named captain of the Mumbai Ranji team.

Rohit made his international debut in ODIs in 2007 against Ireland. However, he did not get the chance to bat in the match. In his early days of international cricket, Rohit Sharma used to play in the middle order. In the same year, he scored his maiden half-century against Pakistan and then against Sri Lanka in 2008. For 2 years, he remained in and out of the ODI team due to his average performance.

In the same year, Rohit made his debut in T20Is and was a part of the Indian squad in the 2007 ICC World Cup T20.

In 2010, he returned to the Indian ODI squad and hit his maiden ODI century against Zimbabwe. Again, due to some average performances, he missed his opportunity to make a cut in ICC World Cup 2011.

He made a comeback to the Indian team and was promoted as an opener by MS Dhoni in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy where he opened the innings with Shikhar Dhawan. This step by Dhoni is often considered the turning point in the career of Rohit Sharma. After 2013, Rohit never looked back and is a part of the team ever since.

In 2013, Rohit made his test debut and scored 177 runs in the match. However, due to some inconsistent performances, he was dropped from the test side.

In 2014 on November 13, Rohit made a record for the highest Individual score in an innings in an ODI against Sri Lanka. He scored 264 runs in 173 balls.

In 2015, he scored in maiden T20 century and became the second cricketer in the world to score a century in all three formats.

Rohit was a crucial member of the Indian white-ball cricket team, but not in Red ball cricket. Since his debut, due to some average performances, he got dropped from the test team till 2018, when he got picked up in the squad for the tour of Australia that turned out to be a historic series for India as the team registered it’s first ever series win on Australian soil.

Rohit is the only cricketer in the world with three double centuries in ODIs.

Rohit was named Vice-Captain of the team when Virat Kohli stepped in the boots of MS Dhoni as Indian captain. In 2017, Rohit captained the Indian team in a series against Sri Lanka when Virat rested the series.

In the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, Rohit scored the highest runs including 5 centuries and 2 half centuries.

In 2021, Rohit Sharma was made full-time Captain of the Indian Cricket team in all three formats.

Rohit started his IPL journey with Deccan Chargers in 2008 and was the vice-captain of the team that won IPL in 2009. Rohit was selected as a batter in IPL, although he also proved his worth as a bowler when he picked a hat-trick against his current team Mumbai Indians.

In 2011, He was bought by Mumbai Indians. After 2 seasons in 2013, he was made captain of the franchise. He led his team from the front and helped the team win their maiden IPL trophy in the same season.

He is often considered the greatest captain in the history of IPL, as he led his team to victory in five seasons (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020) till now.
