Rohit Sharma creates new record, becomes third Indian captain to win ODI series in England

A 5-wicket win over England in the third and final ODI helped Indian skipper Rohit Sharma to become the third Indian Captain to win the ODI series in England.

Rohit. Who handled the full charge of white-ball captaincy later last year, started his tenure with a 3-0 win in the T20I series against New Zealand, and followed by a 3-0 clean sweep over West Indies in the ODI and T20I series earlier this year. Then a complete white wash against Sri Lanka in 3-T20Is and two Tests.

Apart from Rohit, MS Dhoni and Mohammad Azharuddin are the other Indian captains to secure and ODI series in England.

The former skipper Azharuddin achieved this feat in a 1990 series, while MSD became the second captain after Azhar to win an ODI series in England in 2014.

With another strong performance of team India under Rohit Sharma. The char mastic leader now holds a splendid 81.25 win percent as the India captain in ODI cricket. While Sharma’s percentages in T20I and Test format are 83.87 and 100, respectively.

During the tour, the team performed extremely well as a result they dominated the mighty England side in England.

India secured the T20 series by winning the first two games, while they started the ODI campaign with a win in first ODI by 10 wickets, a bad day at Lord’s didn’t demolish team’s confidence as they bounced back strongly in the third ODI and win the game by 5 wickets to secure the series 2-1.

The Indian side will now fly to West Indies for the 3-ODIs and 5-T20Is. Rohit has given rest for ODI series and in his absence Shikhar Dhawan will lead the side. While Rohit will be back on charge as a leader in the T20Is, starting July 29.

In the coming couple months, team India will compete in 2 important international events. Asia Cup in August-September 2022, and ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in October.
