Bangladesh: (20 ov) 103 & 50/2
West Indies: 265
Day 2 – Bangladesh trail by 112 runs.

Playing their first test of the tour, Bangladesh stumbled in their first innings and it was not a pretty sight. The visitors were wrapped up by the hosts for just 103 in the first innings. West Indies continued their 1st innings on day 2 as well and added just another 168 runs for losing 8 wickets. Bangladesh started their second innings on Day 2 itself and could add 50 runs for 2 wickets.

On the second day of the first Test, West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite struck 94 runs to extend his side’s lead. West Indies were removed for 265 after tea for a first-innings advantage of 162. Jermaine Blackwood, who had joined Brathwaite in the morning, was the ninth man out for 63 from 139 balls in the third session. He was Khaled’s second wicket, caught at extra cover by Mehidy Hasan Miraz with a stunning diving catch. Gudakesh Motie, making his West Indies debut, batted at No. 10 and added an unbeaten 23 from 21 balls. Bangladesh’s offspinner Mehidy took 4 for 59.

The Windies edged ahead thanks to a string of half-century partnerships (Brathwaite-Bonner and Brathwaite-Blackwood). Bangladesh made gains with the second new ball after lunch. Despite Blackwood’s patient fifty, Brathwaite missed out on a century by 6 runs, as WI lost a flurry of wickets.

Bangladesh dropped three catches on an opening afternoon after being bowled out for 103 the day before. On the second morning, the bowlers began to create opportunities again, but the fielders’ lack of luck, awareness, and intent wrecked all of their hard work. Later in the day, Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz grabbed several excellent catches to keep the West Indies’ deficit to 162. If the easier chances had been taken early in the innings, the score could have been lower.

Bangladesh’s openers batted cautiously after squandering a 162-run advantage. Bangladesh was reduced to 50 for 2 by stumps. With eight wickets remaining, Bangladesh trailed by 112 runs. Alzarri Joseph’s first bowling change paid off for the hosts as he took out Tamim and then removed Mehidy in his next over. Joy and Shanto made sure there were no more setbacks, but Bangladesh still has a long way to go.

Over the three sessions, 10 wickets have fallen and 220 runs were scored. After Tamim and Mehidy left, Bangladesh was in trouble, but Joy and Shanto made it through the final few overs of the day. Joseph took both of the wickets. With three days remaining in the match, the West Indies remain in command, while Bangladesh remains 112 runs behind. The pacers still have a lot to contribute on the field.
