Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka: Abu Jayed faces trials for questioning his non-selection in Test Series

Bangladeshi speed bowler Abu Jayed is in hot water after voicing concerns over his non-inclusion in the Test team. On Tuesday, a BCB official stated that he will be called for a hearing about his removal from the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. In the article below we have mentioned Why BAN vs SL: Abu Jayed faces trials for questioning his non-selection in the Test Series.

BAN vs SL: Abu Jayed faces trials for questioning his non-selection:

Abu Jayed informed the media earlier in the day that he believes his absence from the Test team had nothing to do with his performance. The right-arm fast bowler’s enraged comment has raised eyebrows and left the Bangladesh Team selection panel and administration in a tricky situation. “To watch him talk in this manner was really disheartening,” BCB chief coach Minhajul Abedin told Cricbuzz.

Jalal Yunus, the chairman of the BCB Cricket organization, has instructed the selection panel to investigate the situation. The bowler was summoned for a formal hearing by the selection panel. On Tuesday, BCB head selector Minhajul Abedin informed the media, “We will call him (Jayed) for a hearing after Eid.” He further continued, “It was really disheartening to see him talk in this manner after being left out of the Test team against Sri Lanka,” adding that they will decide what to do following the hearing.

Jayed has been a member of Bangladesh’s Test team for the previous several years because of his swing ability, but it hasn’t worked out for him recently, as he was left out of the home Test series against Sri Lanka, with the selectors choosing for uncapped Rejaur Rahman instead.

Abu Jayed made his test debut for Bangladesh against the West Indies in 2018 and has since played 13 Tests for the country, taking 30 wickets at an average of 37.26. In November 2021, in Chattogram, the 28-year-old played his final Test match against Pakistan. Jayed was dropped from the playing XI for the second Test after failing to get a wicket in the first.

Despite the fact that Shoriful Islam was ruled out of the game, Bangladesh selectors chose to play fast bowler Kahled Ahmed in the first test against South Africa instead of Jayed. This painted a clear image of Jayed’s career coming to an end, with BCB examining alternative pace options. Even Taskin Ahmed’s injury before the second test didn’t get him a spot in the Test squad.

On May 8, Sri Lanka will arrive in Bangladesh for a two-match Test series, while Bangladesh will arrive in Chattogram on the same day to prepare for the series, which is part of the WTC 2021-2023 cycle. On the 10th and 11th of May, the teams will play a two-day practice match in BKSP. The first match will take place in Chattogram on May 15, followed by the second test in Dhaka on May 23.
