England Cricket To Appoint Separate Head Coaches For Test and White-ball Teams

England Cricket To Appoint Separate Head Coaches: England cricket board is looking to split the coaching structure for their test and white-ball teams and has advised two new head coaches, one for red-ball, and the other for whit-ball format.

Rob Key, the new director of England Cricket, was always in the favour of a split structure and many believe this was coming after his appointment as the managing director of England cricket.

Applicants are invited to apply for the role by May 6 and their first-round interviews will be on May 9 and 10. Gary Kirsten, Simon Katich, Paul Collingwood, and Tom Moddy, all are in the race for the coaching role for the England team.

Apart from the invitation, according to a report by Espncricinfo Graham Ford, who had a solid working relationship with new director Rob Key between 2005 and 2009 can become a test coach. Ford, who was appointed as the head of the Indian cricket team in 2007, carried a good coaching experience in his resume and is currently racing ahead of all his competitors to be the test coach of the England cricket team.

England had tried this split coaching formula before as well, when Ashley Giles was the coach for ODI and T-20 sides and Andy Fowler coached the test side from 2012 to 2014.
The former England captain Paul Collingwood, who has appointed as the coach of England’s T-20 and test team earlier this year on an interim basis, had a dreary run as an assistant coach as the team lose both series.

Chris Silverwood was removed from the role of England’s coach after the 4-0 Ashes series defeat against Australia in Australia. Earlier, England’s ODI and T-20 team captain Eoin Morgan also discussed the same issue, he said “The last time we had a split coaching role, things were very different. It was Ashley Giles and Andy Flower under a different managing director of cricket, Morgan said in an interview with Espncricinfo.

He further added, “If you are going to change something, the level of expectation around different series and different formats needs to be communicated really well and completely understood by both coaches and both teams. I don’t have a massive view on it but obviously whoever comes in needs to do a good job.”

England cricket team is scheduled to play back-to-back cricket in the coming 12 months, so the ECB believes that appointing two head coaches would be a better option.
Team England will play their next test match against New Zealand from June 2, followed by an ODI series against the Netherlands from June 17.
