Board of Cricket for Control in India has confirmed that the squad for India for the prestigious Asia Cup to be announced on Monday, August 8.
The fifteen edition of Asia Cup between the Asian powerhouses is set to commence from August 27 to September 11 in United Arab Emirates.
The competition was originally scheduled to play in Sri Lanka, but due to some political and economic tensions in the country the cup was shifted to United Arab Emirates.
Six nations will lock horns in competition, with India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan have already secured their spots, while UAE, Hong Kong, Nepal, and Oman will play in qualifiers to grab that one remaining spot. The qualifiers will be begin on August 21.
Indian team will begin the competition as the defending champion as in the last edition of Asia Cup in 2018 the men in Blue defeated Bangladesh in the 50-over format tournament.
The schedule for the Asia Cup was announced some days back, with Sri Lanka to face Afghanistan in the opening match, and India and Pakistan to face each other in the second match on August 28 at Dubai International Stadium. Team India will be seeking revenge when they compete against the neighbours as in their last meeting Pakistan defeated India by 10 wickets in the T20 World Cup 2021.
This time the event will be played in 20-over format as part of the preparations for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in Australia, starting October 16.
