Afghanistan Qualify for 2023 ODI World Cup: Afghanistan now has 115 points overall in the current cycle of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League standings thanks to the five additional points the Asian team received for the no result.

As a result, they are comfortably in seventh place in the current standings. The 50-over World Cup, which will be contested in India in 2019, would automatically admit the top eight teams from the Super League.

Teams Qualified for ODI World Cup 2023

With ODI World Cup coming up in 2023 which will be played in India. Moreover now England, India, New Zealand, Australia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan are qualified for ODI WC23. Another team will be added, with the West Indies leading the way.

Disappointing but a Happy Night for Afghanistan

While Afghanistan did well with the five points, Sri Lanka fared far worse because their chances of automatically qualifying remained in jeopardy. With only four games left to try to get into the top eight, Dasun Shanaka’s side is now in 10th place in the rankings with only 67 points.

Can Sri Lanka Bounce Back?

Sri Lanka now has to defeat Afghanistan in Pallekele on Wednesday, they can gain a key 10 points and tie the current series. This game now appears to be crucial for both sides.

But ultimately, it was the weather that decided. The best Sri Lanka can currently hope for is a draw in the series despite being well-positioned to make a comeback. Additionally, because they will only receive five Super League points from this game. Their chances of securing automatic qualification for the World Cup the following year are severely diminished.

Playoff Qualifiers for ODI World Cup

The Qualifier will include six teams. Playoff: the top teams from Challenge League Groups A and B and the bottom four teams from League 2. The top two teams from this competition advance to the qualifying round.
