Aakash Chopra in a Twitter debate over Buttler- Wade incident: With all abuse I got… Sam Billings

Twitter Debate Over Buttler: Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra questioned England cricketers’ double standards. After they remained silent while Matthew Wade attempted to obstruct Mark Wood’s fielding effort.

Since India’s woman cricketer Deepti Sharma ran out England batter Charlie Dean when she stepped out of the non-crease strikers before the ball was bowled, the ‘Spirit of Cricket’ debate has dominated the headlines. Dean’s run out had won the match for India, completing a 3-0 victory over hosts England. Although it was a legal dismissal, the incident sparked outrage as several English cricket fans and current players jumped in to condemn and criticize the Indian Women’s Team for their tactics.

Just as that debate seemed to be dying down, another incident, albeit of a different kind, occurred during the first T20I between Australia and England in Perth on Sunday. The theme of ‘spirit of cricket’ was called into question once more when Australia batter Matthew Wade appeared to try to prevent England bowler Mark Wood from catching the ball after it had been lobbed straight up when the left-hander tried to pull a short delivery off the England pacer. But, interestingly or rather dramatically, captain Jos Butler did not appeal Wade’s dismissal for obstructing the field to the umpires.

Former Indian Cricketer Akash Chopra took a dig at England Cricketers. Over their silence on the Wade-Wood episode and seemingly questioned their double standards

Are our English Friends (the custodians of the spirit of the game) quiet on this? Chopra posted on twitter.

England captain Jos Buttler once being questioned about his not to appeal, said: “I was looking at the ball the whole time, so I wasn’t sure what happened. They asked if I wanted to appeal, but I thought we are here for a long time in Australia so would be a risky one to go for so early in the trip,” Buttler explained.

When he was poked further. Whether he would have appealed if it was a world cup match, buttler quotes “maybe yeah”
