Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah get a day off from the five Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) against the West Indies that will be played in the Caribbean and the United States starting on July 29. Yuzvendra Chahal, a well-known leg-spinner, has also been given a break.
The former Indian skipper is reeling under pressure due to lack of performance in the last couple of series held against England. In the T20I series, Virat played two matches held at Edgbaston and Trent Bridge and got dismissed by scoring 1 run and 13 runs respectively.
After that, Virat Kohli was given rest in the first ODI versus England reportedly due to groin niggle. Again, he made a comeback soon in the second match which was held on Thursday at Oval, where his performance still continuing at a diminishing note scoring just 16 runs.
Meanwhile, Bumrah, is given rest. According to the International Cricket Council rankings, announced July 13, Bumrah took to the top No. 1 spot as a ODI bowler, claiming career-best figures of 6/19 in the first ODI against England on Tuesday.
Kuldeep Yadav and KL Rahul were chosen for the 18-man team after passing fitness tests; Rahul just had hernia surgery. In the June matchup against South Africa at home, Yadav had hurt his hand. Even though he played his final T20I in November of last year, Ravichandran Ashwin rejoined the team.
The skipper Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and Hardik Pandya will all come back for the T20I series after missing the previous ODI series. The ODI series will be led by Shikhar Dhawan.
Arshdeep Singh, a left-arm bowler who was not selected for the complete team to face England in the last two T20Is, is back in the mix.
On July 29, the opening T20I will be played in Trinidad. Thereafter, a few matches will be played in St. Kitts, and then the action will travel to the United States with two matches in Lauderhill, Florida.
