1984 is a memorable year in cricket, but not for the English fans who saw Sir Viv’s legendary ODI innings achieved in the Test series with a 5-0 ‘blackwash.’
The visitors were in a spot of bother during the first ODI on the West Indies tour to England. Desmond Haynes had been and was running out as part of a misunderstanding with opening partner Gordon Greenidge. Greenidge followed him up to the pavilion, nicking off at Ian Botham’s away swinger.
West Indies kicked off the tour with a 104-run win-still remembered for the best ODI knock they’ve ever played.
