Virat Kohli has had a successful career as the captain of Team India, and his track record speaks for itself. The top scorer batsman is already the most successful Indian captain in the longest version of the game, with 33 wins. In ODIs, he has a victory percentage of over 70, while in T20Is, he has a win percentage of over 65. These extraordinary figures, however, appear similar to the fact that captain Kohli has yet to win an ICC trophy. Saba Karim feels the T20 World Cup will be very crucial.

“The T20 World Cup will be very crucial for Virat Kohli’s captaincy career” – Saba Karim

In the 2017 Champions Trophy, the 2019 World Cup, and the just-ended World Test Championship, the 32-year-old headed the Indian team. In all of these contests, Team India performed admirably and appeared to be headed for victory. They slipped in the playoff matches each time, falling short of the trophy. As a result, many fans and analysts have questioned Kohli’s leadership abilities.

The T20 World Cup, which will be held in the UAE later this year, is the next major ICC event on the cricket timeline. Kohli will lead the Men in Blue for the second time, and he hopes to overcome the last obstacle this time. Former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Saba Karim recently stated that India’s performance in the premier tournament will determine Kohli’s future as national captain.

‘Kohli’s aim would be for India to win the T20 World Cup’: Saba Karim

Saba Karim feels the T20 World Cup will be very crucial  “The T20 World Cup that is going to be played later this year will be extremely crucial for Virat Kohli’s captaincy career. The pressure is piling on Virat and he knows that he hasn’t won an ICC trophy yet. So, his aim would be for India to win the T20 World Cup,” Karim told in an Interview.

“If India can lift the trophy, then I believe Kohli will have that breathing space. Maybe he can take stock of the situation then and decide how long he wants to captain the team. His name is coming up in the list of big captains but an ICC title is far from him,” he added.

With World Cups now being held in all three formats, Karim also reflects the fact of divided captaincy. The 53-year-old claimed having another captain in one format may decrease Kohli’s burden, pointing out that various forms demand different abilities.
