Sanju Samson likely to be vice-captain of Team India in South Africa series

The one Indian player, who showed his mettle many times in the past few years, but after playing such good cricket, he is still waiting for a stable spot in the Indian side.

According to some media reports, Sanju Samson is all to be appointed as the vice-captain of Team India for the upcoming ODI series against South Africa.

This decision will be taken due to the regular players of the Indian side will not be available for this series as they will be in Australia for the World Cup 2022. And in their absence, Shikhar Dhawan might lead the side, while Samson will be appointed as the vice-captain.

Earlier, Sanju Samson’s absence from the Indian T20 World Cup squad for 2022 did not sit well with his fans. As they wanted the wicketkeeper-batter to be a member of the team. Given his impressive performance in the white-ball format over the previous two years.

As when the team for the T20 World cup was announced, fans felt very upset after not seeing his name in the squad. However, for the ODI series against New Zealand A, BCCI selected Sanju Samson to captain the India A side, on which fans gave mixed reactions.

He scored 458 runs in the 17 matches he played in IPL 2022. His average was of 28.63. He scored runs with a strike rate of 146.79 and also hit two fifties in the process.

Under his captaincy in this year’s IPL, the team of Royals reached the finals of the Indian Premier League after 15 years.

He was the part of India’s squad for the home series against Sri Lanka. He was a part of all three games, and got chance to bat in 2. In those 2 innings he scored 57 at an average of 28.50 with a solid strike-rate of 154.05.

He has been part of 6 T20Is this year in which he scored 179 runs at an average of 44.75. His strike rate of 158.40 also ranks among the best for India this year.

Samson recently earned a lot of support from the stadium crowds on his recent tours. In  Zimbabwe, the West Indies, and Ireland. He was recognized as one of the team’s most beloved players.

The wicket-keeper batter, still not selected for the recently concluded Australia T20 series and upcoming T20 series against the Proteas.

Fans are now hoping to see Sanju in the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa.
