Aaron Finch is popular all around the world as an aggressive & bold opening batsman, who is also famous for his hard-hitting shots and tremendous finishing smacks. Early Days

Aaron Finch was born in Colac, Victoria, Australia on 17th November 1968. His father’s name is Gary Finch and mother’s name is Sue. He has two siblings, Mat, his brother, and Jess, his sister. In his early days, he played mostly for Colac West Cricket Club as a wicketkeeper-batsman before joining in A grade and finally playing for Geelong.

Aaron Finch has completed his schooling in Colac South West primary school. Once when he was studying in grade four, Aaron Finch told the complete assembly that in future one day he would definitely play cricket for Australia when there was no school cricket or anything like that in that area.

Aaron Finch is the skipper of the cricket team of Australia in limited-overs cricket. Now, he holds the record in Twenty20 internationals for two of the three highest individual runs, with his 172 scores in 2018, July against Zimbabwe overcoming his last record of 156 runs in 2013 against England. This score of Aaron Finch is the highest individual score of all time in Twenty20 internationals as well as the second-highest across all formats of T20s. It is also the highest score as an opener. In T20, his tremendous knock of 172 runs is the highest score as a skipper of the team. Previously, Shane Watson holds this record and Aaron Finch became the only batsman, who scored 150+ scores in T20I twice.

Career

Domestic Career

Aaron Finch is caringly known as Finchy. In the 2009-2010 season, he was selected for Victoria. In this season, he scored his maiden first-class hundred. His outstanding performance in the Pura Cup and Sheffield Shield established Aaron Finch as the power of Victoria. Depending upon his performance in Colac West Cricket Club, he was picked for the Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2006. Against Tasmania, in the year 2009-10, his 1st first-class century came in. In Big Bash League 2012, Aaron Finch became the skipper of Melbourne Renegades and also awarded as the player of the game. After two years of the league, he joined Yorkshire Country Cricket Club. Then in 2015, Aaron Finch became the first cricketer, who scored 1000 runs in the Big Bash League.

International Cricket

Test career

 In 2018 September, Aaron Finch played his first Test match against Pakistan for Australia. All total he played 5 Test matches and scored 278 runs with the help of two fifties at an average of 27.8.

ODI career

Aaron Finch played his debut match in ODI on January 11, 2013, against the team of Sri Lanka. He was a top-order batsman and fastest cricketer of Australia who can reach 10 ODI hundreds. Aaron also has the records of combined fastest fifties by any Australian cricketer in ODIs – 50 runs off 18 deliveries. Aaron Finch has also played the 2015 Cricket World Cup. In his first World Cup match, he scored 135 runs against England for which he awarded as the man of the match.  In 2019 March, he became Australia’s 29th cricketer to play 100 ODI games. In 2019 April, he became the captain of Australia for the Cricket World Cup 2019.

T20I career

Aaron Finch made his first appearance in T20 Internationals on January 12, 2011, against England. Aaron recorded his highest T20 I individual score on August 29, 2013. Against England, when he smacked 156 runs off 63 balls, he overcame the record of Brendon Mc Cullum of 123 runs.

Aaron Finch became the first cricketer, who scored 1000 runs on December 20, 2015, in the Big Bash League. He became the first batsman in Twenty20 internationals to reach the 900 rating marks on the official Twenty20 rankings in 2018 July. Aaron was the second-fastest batsman to score 1000 runs in 29 innings in Twenty20 internationals just behind the India captain Virat Kohli and became the fastest Australian player to achieve this.

IPL career

In the year 2010, Aaron Finch was first played for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League. In 2011- IPL auction, Delhi Daredevils picked him. For two continuous seasons, Aaron Finch linked with Delhi Daredevils and later picked by Pune Warriors in the year 2013. In the year 2014, Sunrises Hyderabad brought him. In 2015, Mumbai Indians brought Aaron Finch but because of his injury, he couldn’t play for the franchise. Gujarat Lions bought him in 2016 and Kings XI Punjab picked him in the year 2018. At the end of the season, Kings XI Punjab released him. He didn’t register for 2019 IPL so that he could find enough time to prepare for the 2019 World Cup.

World Cup through the years

As a captain, the 2019 World Cup was the first World Cup for Aaron Finch and if we consider overall, then it is the second one. He was also the part of Australia’s winning squad of the 2015 World Cup. Then, he produced an amazing century against England before tapering off for the remaining matches. But, Aaron Finch was back to his tremendous form and scored a hard half-century in the semi-final match against India. In this match, his partnership with Steve Smith played a very important role. For his leadership quality, the Cricket Australia made Aaron Finch as the captain of the team in 2019.

  • In an interview with the Official website of Cricket Australia Aaron Finch said that in 2014 July, he played for the MCC team in the Bicentenary Celebration match at Lord’s. He accepted to be a little bit nervous on the day and also felt an embarrassment in the presence of the great legends and felt like a school kid in front of them. Further, he added “the thing I was most concerned about was taking Tendulkar’s wicket. I thought, in case I run him out, there was no chance I could be able to get out of this cricket field alive.” In fact, when he reached in his 60s, he planned to get him out so that the audience could see a few of the greats bat that day.
