The Indian team defeated Sri Lanka by a 62-run edge in the opening T20I series in Lucknow’s, Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. Having Sri Lanka pursuing, India attempted quite so many as 7 bowling combinations as they achieved a massive total of 199 runs in their allowed 20 overs. Shreyas Iyer has disclosed that he urged their vice-captain Bumrah to bowl in the final overs. we discussed here what Shreyas Iyer Speaks About Bumrah

With the exception of Bumrah, Indian pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravindra Jadeja, Venkatesh Iyer, Harshal Patel, and Deepak Hooda have previously bowled and grabbed 6 wickets. Despite India being in a strong position to win the game, Iyer said in the post-match conference that he discussed rolling his wrist in the final overs alongside Bumrah. Despite the fact that it did not go in his favor.

My start was slow but it wasn’t easy: Shreyas Iyer

“I had already put my hand up (for a bowl). Around the 16th over when he (Rohit) went it he had already told Bumrah these are the bowlers who need to bowl. I tried to bribe Bumrah but it didn’t work for me (laughs),” Iyer said in the post-match presentation.

Iyer had already pushed his position as the 6th bowling choice during the last month’s ODI series versus South Africa. Team captain Sharma had stated that Iyer must establish himself as an all-rounder in order to be a regular member of the Indian side.

“My start was slow but it wasn’t easy. But once my eye got in, and once I got a boundary, I thought I would keep going. Ishan (Kishan) wasn’t able to time (in the middle overs) and he too was losing patience, so I told him to take his time and then he again started timing well. I just told him to take his time, look for twos and threes,” said Iyer.

Shreyas Iyer discussed the plan while batting with Kishan: “Our plan was to hit the pockets, initially that’s what we did, and things came out pretty well for us. It’s a huge ground, especially after playing at Eden Gardens. We had planned to run a lot of twos and eventually our every plan came off.”

However, India succeeded after holding the visiting side to 137 runs for the cost of 6 wickets. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Venkatesh Iyer were the standouts of the bowling attack for the home team, both grabbing 2 wickets, whereas Chahal and Jadeja secured one wicket each. Furthermore,  Ishan Kishan’s 89-run contribution, together with Shreyas’ 28-ball 57, ensured India conclude with a massive target.
