Former England spinner Graeme Swann argues that the ban on saliva does not impact spinners. It is understood that the spinners get more drift in the air if the ball is shining properly, but Swann thinks the contrary. Swann thinks that if there’s less shine on the surface, it’s easier for the spinner, so it can make him turn more with a rough pitch. The former England off-spinner added that the ball grips more on the rough side. It is known that the old ball provides more assistance to the spinners and thus they are brought up into the attack after the seamers bowl their first spell.
