Meanwhile, at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Afridi secured a significant toss and opted to bat first. They lost 3 wickets in rapid session and were dropped to 25/3 in the 5th over, so the strategy appeared to have failed. Eventually, experienced all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez took control with 69 off 46, while crucial contributions from Harry Brook with David Wiese towards the close of the innings powered the Qalandars to 180/5 off their 20 overs. Brook was undefeated on 41 runs from 22 deliveries, whereas Wiese was undisturbed on 28 runs from only 8 balls.

The opening stand with a 36-run, skipper Rizwan & Shan Masood put the title-holders in the chase. However, both were removed in quick order before the Powerplay overs were concluded. Masood’s run-out proved important in the game, as the Sultans barely returned and consistently lost wickets periodically as the intensity of the match increased to the next level.

Tim David with 27 runs and Khushdil Shah 32 runs attempted the unbelievable with a 51-run 6th-wicket partnership, however, the Lahore bowlers produced an incredible return to dismiss Multan Sultans for 138 with 3 balls to play. Shaheen Afridi, the captain, was the standout of the bowlers, posting statistics of 3/30 from 4 overs at an economy rate of 7.5.
