The Crazy Rise of SKY: Surya Kumar Yadav the New 360 Degree Man

Suryakumar Yadav batting: The way Suryakumar Yadav is batting these days, it even feels illegal to witness what he does. He often says that even he is surprised by his shots.

Suryakumar is currently the top batter in the T20I format, having amassed 1395 runs in 41 games while striking out an astounding 181.64 percent of the time. What then is the formula for Suryakumar’s success? The explosive batter made the point that he always tries to follow his routines and procedures and that his family also helps to keep him in a good frame of mind.

In the 19th over of India’s innings against New Zealand at Bay Oval, Suryakumar Yadav performed yet another 360-degree batting display by using his willow like a magic stick. In order to reach his hundred, he lofted the bowler past the covers, carved Lockie Ferguson through the third-man zone, and struck a six when facing the final delivery. He saved his best for the penultimate delivery in that over. Ferguson had tracked the batsman and dug one short, but Suryakumar still managed to create space and ramp the bowler for a boundary. Ferguson’s only response to his displeasure was to ruffle his hair.

How the World Reacted to Surya Kumar Yadav Batting

Virat Kohli, who is out for the series, tweeted that his teammate’s impressive hitting was like playing a “video game.” Suryakumar stated that playing cricket alongside Kohli is fun for him. In the recently finished T20 World Cup in Australia, Kohli and Suryakumar combined their various batting philosophies to forge crucial stands.

Surya Kumar Yadav on His Batting

“The confidence is always there. Yeah, I have a few runs behind my back but at the same time, there is a very thin line between you getting complacent also, when you’re coming into any game after scoring runs. I think you have got to do all your processes and routines the same way what you have been doing when you have done well. 99 per cent I try to do the same things on match days like, for example, if I have to do a gym session or I have to eat lunch on perfect timing or I have to take a nap for 15-20 minutes. These are small, small routines I try to do on game days.

“And when I come to the ground, it feels good and that is my zone. And also I spend a lot of time with my wife on off days, speak to my parents a lot, the one thing that keeps me grounded always is they don’t talk about the game, we don’t talk about the game at all, and they keep me in good space. That is the most important thing and I’m happy to stay in that zone for a long time from here on.”

The Rise of Surya Kumar Yadav

For Mumbai, Suryakumar made his domestic debut back in 2009–2010. The middle order bat admitted that he has experienced his fair share of hardships, but he made an effort to maintain a good outlook and pursue his goal of improving as a cricket player. “Because I frequently travel with my wife and talk to her in my room about how things were a few years ago versus how they are today and what has changed significantly, I am constantly thinking back on the past. We talk about those moments. There was definitely frustration at that time, but we used to look for the positives, like how we could improve as cricket players or take a step farther.”
