Indian vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane got his long-due share of acknowledgement after he successfully guided India to a 2-1 ‘Border Gavaskar’ win Down Under. Ajinkya Rahane’s stint as India’s stand-in captain, in the absence of Virat Kohli, got the world under his feet. Cricket experts applauded his calmness in worrisome situations and the way he managed his side during the toughest of the situations. He scored a match-winning ton in the second Test at Melbourne against Australia. However, the 32-year-old hasn’t been up to the mark with his bat since that ‘special’ innings at MCG.

IND vs ENG: Manjrekar questions Rahane’s form

Virat Kohli is back at the Indian squad and is currently leading the ‘Men in Blue’ in the first of the four-match Test series against England. Indian batsmen have had a difficult time facing the English bowlers in M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Ajinkya Rahane has been struggling the most in the first Test. The right-handed batsman only managed to score a total of 1 run in two innings against England. Rahane’s flop gig on his home soil has raised many eyebrows.

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has pointed out Rahane’s innefficiency with the bat after the MCG’s innings. Manjrekar took his Twitter account to question Rahane’s credibility as a batsman. Manjrekar stated: “My issue with Rahane the captain is Rahane the batsman. After that 100 in Melbourne his scores are – 27*, 22, 4, 37, 24, 1 & 0. After a 100, class players carry their form & carry the burden of players out of form. #INDvENG”
