Mohammad Siraj, born on 13 March 1994 in Hyderabad, India, is a right-arm medium-fast Indian bowler. Siraj is known for being lethal with his yorkers in the slog overs in the past few years. For quite some time now he has been a part of the Indian squad in all three formats. He can constantly bowl in the 135-140 kph range and can also deliver slower balls whenever necessary. His variations have made him more valuable in the Indian squad. Mohammad Siraj Early Life and Education

Mohammad Siraj’s early life was full of hardships. He was not in a condition to afford cricket coaching so he used to play cricket in the streets with a tennis ball. He had so much passion for cricket that he used to bunk his school to play with friends. In his early stages he started off as a batter but his friends urge him to be a bowler after witnessing his skills. In 2015 at the age of 20, Siraj visited Chairman Cricket Club with a friend and impressed everyone there in the club. He started playing for the club and gave some magnificent performances. In the same year, he was selected in the state’s Under-23 squad and then senior Zonal side.

Siraj made in first-class debut on 15 November 2015 for Hyderabad in Ranji Trophy against Services at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, Delhi. He only played a single game in his debut season.

In 2016, he made his debut in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournament. In the same year, he performed extremely well in Ranji Trophy and helped Hyderabad in reaching the quarter-finals. He took 41 wickets in 9 matches and ended up as the highest wicket-taker for Hyderabad and third-highest wicket-taker for the season. This performance made his way into the ‘Rest of India’ team for Irani Cup.

In 2017, he has selected in India A squad for the tour of South Africa.

In 2017-18 Vijay Hazare Trophy tournament he emerged as the highest wicket-taker. He took 23 wickets in 7 matches.

In 2018-19, he was picked up in India A squad for Deodhar Trophy Tournament. Later in the same year, he was named in the India B squad for Deodhar Trophy.

With some good performances under his name in the domestic circuit, Mohammad Siraj made his way to the national side. In October 2017, he got selected for the T20I series against New Zealand. Siraj made his International Debut on 4 November 2017 against New Zealand in a T20I. His first outing in Indian jersey didn’t go as expected. He conceded 53 runs in 4 overs with 1 wicket of Kane Williamson. Later next year in 2018, he got selected for the team for Nidahas Trophy.

In 2018, Siraj was selected in the Test squad against West Indies but did not get a chance to be a part of playing-11.

After a year in 2019, he got his maiden ODI to call up for a series against Australia. He made his ODI debut on 15 January 2019 against Australia. He didn’t pick up any wicket in his ODI debut.

In December 2020, Mohammad Siraj made his Test Debut for the Indian team against Australia. Siraj’s first test wicket was Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne. During the 4th test of the series against Australia, he took his maiden five-wicket haul in the tests. Since 2020, Siraj has been a constant member of the Indian squad, especially in the tests. He provides a completely different set of skills in the bowling lineup of the Indian team.
