Mohammad Shami Ruled Out: Due to a hand injury, veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami will not play in the ODI series against Bangladesh that begins on Sunday. After returning from Australia, where the Indian side lost in the T20 World Cup semifinals, Shami is said to have hurt himself during a training session.
IND VS BAN: Mohammad Shami Ruled Out of Bangladesh ODI Series Due to Injury
Mohammad Shami has been ruled out of the ODI series against Bangladesh. Shami might also be absent from the forthcoming two-test series, which starts on December 14 in Chittagong.
Shami’s ailment has not yet been fully assessed. The Bengal speedster, 33, is a crucial component of India’s ODI strategy heading into the World Cup in 2023.
A BCCI official informed about the injury. He said, “Mohammed Shami has suffered a hand injury that he sustained after resuming training post T20 World Cup in Australia. He has been asked to report at the NCA, and has not traveled with the team on December 1″
IND VS BAN: Shami’s Injury a Trouble for India
“Shami’s absence from three ODI games is definitely a factor but bigger worry is his likely absence from Tests where he is supposed to spearhead the attack in Jasprit Bumrah’s absence,” he added.
Shami’s absence from the Test series would worry captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid. India needs to win every game to remain in the running for the upcoming World Test Championship final at the Oval in June.
In 60 Test matches, Shami has 216 wickets to his name.
IND VS BAN: Potential Replacement for Shami
However, should Shami also miss the Tests, India will have Navdeep Saini and Mukesh Kumar to pick from. They are in the Indian A squad that is also currently touring Bangladesh. In the first four-day match, Saini took four wickets while Mukesh took three.
Saini, who made his Test debut on the 2020–21 tour of Australia, has played two matches for India while Mukesh has never received a cap.
Along with Shami’s current injury, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was already unable to play in the ODIs. He is recovering from knee surgery that he underwent in September. His participation in the Test matches is also in doubt. Jadeja might be replaced by left-arm spinner Saurabh Kumar, who is now playing for India A in Bangladesh.
