Finch Confirms Warner As Australia’s Opener During The T20 WC

Australia’s white-ball captain, Aaron Finch has revealed that David Warner would start the innings with him in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, which begins on October 17. The announcement comes after the lefty was withdrawn from Sunrisers Hyderabad’s roster for the current Indian Premier League (IPL) (SRH). Warner’s record this season has been poor for the club in orange, leading to his dismissal as captain during the India edition of the IPL this year. Here is Who Is The Australia’s Opener During The T20 World Cup.

The lefty has also withdrawn from Australia’s 2 T20I visits to the West Indies and Bangladesh. Following that he appeared in the IPL in the UAE, however, he was let through after only 2 matches in which he made 0 and 2. Warner has not really featured a Twenty20 International for Australia since September 2020.

However, at a press conference, captain Finch encouraged Warner to perform well as an opener during the mega event. “Yep, absolutely,” Finch said. “He’s one of the best players to ever play the game for Australia. I’ve got no doubt that his preparation, while he would love to be playing for Hyderabad no doubt, I know that he’s still training away. He’ll be good to go.”

Putting load through my knee I’ve got no issues: Finch

Aaron Finch, who missed the T20I series versus Bangladesh owing to a knee injury, will also return to action. There was also some uncertainty about whether he would be able to recover quickly in time for the 2 warm-up matches versus India and New Zealand, however, the right-hand batsman is confident of being fit for both.

“Over the past couple of weeks my recovery has progressed really well so it’s looking more and more likely that I’ll be fit and ready to go for them,” Finch said. “And just in terms of the intensity that I’ve been able to train, the amount of accelerations decelerations putting load through my knee, that’s all really positive. So, yeah, I’ve got no issues.”

Finch began by noting that he had an excellent fielding and hitting practice session. Eventually, he spoke with the surgeon, who is equally pleased with his development.

“I had probably my biggest session in terms of fielding, changing direction, and all that stuff with batting involved as well so that’s gone as well as it could be. I had a meeting with the surgeon and he was really happy with where it’s at,” he concluded.
