BBL Introduces Central Pool For Player Replacements

The Big Bash League (BBL) organizing committee has recently designed a new central pool of Local Replacement Players (LRP) in order to help the franchises to pick a new player in this Covid-enforced gaps in their squad for the remainder of the season.

Each individual player has to follow the protocols which are set by the BBL and they can be assigned to a ‘Home’ club for logistical reasons.

Cricket Australia’s General Manager Mr. Alistair Dobson for BBL said – “The Local Replacement Player pool is another example of the League and Clubs working together to address the challenges of the season with innovative solutions”

He has further added – “The player pool provides Clubs with increased options should injury, illness or other circumstances affect the availability of players, while also streamlining the process of integrating LRPs into the group from a biosecurity perspective.”

As per the BBL’s protocol for the remainder of this season, each individual club will not be able to sign local players as replacements from outside of the central pool – Unless approved by the BBL Technical Committee.

Central pool plays a huge role in this Covid affected season and each club has to put a scanner on these players. Among all the BBL teams, Melbourne Stars and Brisbane Heat are the most affected teams of this season because 13 and 12 players respectively are under isolation. In order to tackle the situation which was surrounded by the Covid affected states,  the BBL management took the decision to move all 8 teams to the Victoria hub for the remainder of the season.

Here is the list of players who are currently in the pool:

  1. Nicholas Bertus (Sydney Sixers)
  2. Jake Carder (Perth Scorchers)
  3. Iain Carlisle (Hobart Hurricanes)
  4. Daniel Drew (Adelaide Strikers)
  5. Jake Doran (Melbourne Stars)
  6. Lachlan Hearne (Sydney Thunder)
  7. Lachlan Pfeffer (Brisbane Heat)
  8. Brayden Stepien (Melbourne Renegades)

* Note – More players are to be added to the pool
