GT vs CSK Match Highlights:
Gujarat Titans defeated Chennai Super Kings by 7 wickets in the 62nd match of the ongoing IPL at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Chasing the target of 134, GT openers Wriddhiman Saha and Shubhman Gill provided their team a strong start to carry forward the positive momentum.
Both added 59 runs for the 1st wicket in 7 overs, as Shubhman Gill was trapped in Matheesha Pathirana’s full delivery on the wickets in the first ball of the 8th over.
Wriddhiman Saha had a fantastic day at work as he completed his well-deserved half-century in just 41 balls. While Matthew Wade looked assured on the field and hit some excellent shots, but a loose stroke on the second ball of 12th over forced him to go back to the pavilion. The skipper of GT didn’t do much and was out cheaply at just 7 runs.
A brilliant innings of 67 runs in 57 deliveries by Saha helped the table-toppers win this game.
Earlier, Chennai witnessed a dreary start when they lost Devon Conway during the third over of the innings. However, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Moeen Ali steadied the CSK innings by adding 57 runs for the second wicket. While batting at a score of 21 Moeen Ali tried to smash the ball in the stands but mistimed and got caught at deep mid-wicket.
Gaikwad, on the other hand, continued his natural approach and has played some good shots to complete his well-deserved half-century. He added 48 runs with N Jagadeesha for 3rd wicket before GT bowlers stuck back nicely to remove Ruturaj Gaikwad.
At the end of 16 over, CSK were at 113/3 and everyone was expecting CSK to cross at least 150 considering their in depth batting line-up that includes MS Dhoni. But GT bowlers have some other plans. Alzarri Joseph, who bowled the 17th over gave just 3 runs and dismissed Dube.
MS Dhoni then came onto the field, but Rashid Khan’s tight bowling prevented CSK from scoring even 4 runs in the 18th over. MS Dhoni and N Jagadeesha were both unable to hit huge shots against GT spinner Yash Dayal, collecting just 8 runs, including two wides each. Mohammed Shami followed suit, conceding only 6 runs and dismissing the CSK captain in the final over.
For GT, Mohammed Shami bagged 2 wickets, while Alzarri Joseph, Sai Kishore and Rashid Khan took 1-1 each.
