Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Pointing revealed the batting position of Australian sensation Steve Smith for the latest Indian Premier League season. After a poor stint with Rajasthan Royals in the last IPL edition, Smith was roped in by Delhi Capitals for a base price of only 2 crores in the latest conducted mini-auction.

IPL 2021: Steve Smith Will Bat In Top-3

Delhi Capitals already had a star-studded batting line-up with players like Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Ajinkya Rahane already in the squad. Fans were wondering will Smith find his place in the playing 11 or not with the set of informed batsmen in the DC squad. However, Shreyas Iyer’s recent injury has made breathing room for Smith in the starting XI.

Smith might get a chance to feature once in every couple of games. Nevertheless, Pointing has confirmed that Smith will bat in the top 3 spots whenever he gets the chance. Pointing, however, admitted the Smith might not be regularly involved in the starting XI. According to Pointing, Smith is “very, very keen” to feature for DC in IPL 2021.

“I think the fact that he’s been released from the franchise that he’s been at for a long time will make him a bit hungry as well this year. So, if he gets an opportunity with us — I think it will be in the top three somewhere — if he gets an opportunity, I’m sure he’ll have a great year for us,” Ricky Ponting told cricket.com.au.

“I caught up with him (recently), he’s very, very keen to go out there and perform well. Obviously, the other side of that is there’s a big auction again next year, so if he happens to have a really good IPL this year, then I’m sure that that price is going to go up for the coming season,” Pointing added.
