On Tuesday, the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) stated that for the first time in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), two group-stage games will be played simultaneously, at the same time. The two said matches will be between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) vs Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) vs Delhi Capitals (DC). Here is how Netizens React To The Updated IPL Timings

What Did The BCCI Statement Read?

BCCI announced that two aforementioned games will be parallelly played on the last day of the league stage I:e: 8/10/2021. BCCI have not handed the reason behind the following decision. The decision was publicly announced after a meeting between the IPL Governing Council.

“In a first for the IPL, the last two league matches before the VIVO IPL 2021 Playoffs will be played concurrently. On the last day of the league stage (08.10.2021) of the ongoing season, instead of having one afternoon match and one evening match, two matches (SRH v MI and RCB v DC) will be played simultaneously at 7.30 PM IST,” BCCI said in a statement.

However, the reason behind this call can be there will be no pre-match advantage for the teams to improve their NRR with an equation in mind so that they can leapfrog their opponents on the points table and qualify through to the playoffs right at the end.

Netizens Made The Most Of The BCCI’s Latest Modification

While some viewers were fine with BCCI’s decision to play both the games at once, which usually happens in football, others were disappointed with the new update in the timings. Fans of the biggest cricketing league in the world obviously want to watch all the games, especially when it involves teams like MI and RCB.
However, with the latest changes in the schedule, it will be difficult to catch up with both the games at once. Fans were ready with some hilarious tweets to take a dig at the BCCI.
