ENG Vs AFG 1st Innings Update

Things are starting to get heat up as England faces Afghanistan in the 2nd match of Super 12 of ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Afghanistan batting first tumbles and got all out on a mere 112. England’s bowlers completely outplayed the opponent. Sam Curran goes back to green room with a fifer giving away just 10 runs. Let us look at ENG Vs AFG 1st Innings Update in detail.

Afghanistan’s Struggle with the Speed

It was an embarrassing day out for Afghanistan with the bat. The team was folded for a mere 112 in the last over of the innings. The team only had two batters scoring beyond 15. Ibrahim Zadran scored 32 while Usman Ghani scored 30 runs. Rest all batters scored 13 and below.

It was an effective bowling display by England, spearheaded by Sam Curran’s long and productive stretch. He took 5 wickets in his 4 overs quota. Today’s bowlers generally have good ball control. Mark Wood was at his fiery best taking 2 wickets. Stokes bowled superbly with the new ball and took 2 wickets as well.

Due to this pitch’s bounce, Afghanistan’s batters were startled by the bowlers’ raw speed, and their innings never really got going. Sam Curran made the most of the pressure his teammates were applying as Afghanistan lost the battle and was carted off for a medical cost. With the exception of Usman Ghani and Ibrahim Zadran, none of the other Afghan batters made very noteworthy contributions.

What Man of the Moment Said:

Sam Curran, who took 5 wickets off his 4 overs giving just 10 runs talked about team’s bowling display. He said, “At the start of the game, I didn’t expect to walk off like that. Really good performance from the guys. After winning the toss, we knew that we had the plans. Big square boundaries, we used the dimensions really well. We’re really happy with the score. We worked really hard on our fielding over the last couple of weeks. We know that it’s going to be a huge factor in the tournament.”

“Livi (Liam Livingstone) started off with that running catch in front of the Barmy Army out there which was really cool. That just set the standards for the rest of the innings. I had a chat with Jos earlier in Pakistan and he told me clearly that he wants me to be ready to bowl in all phases. It’s about being a little adaptable, we’ve got so many option in the team. I’m really enjoying contributing. You got to enjoy the days that go well, hopefully it goes well for the next 5-6 games.”
