NZ vs BAN Match Highlights
The last chance for Bangladesh to remain significant in the ongoing Tri-Series between New Zealand, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. The Hosts, Kiwis beat the Tigers by a massive margin of 48 runs to confirm final berths for them and PAK. A significant contribution came from Devon Conway and Glen Philips with their 60+ scores. Let us look into NZ vs BAN Match Highlights in detail.
New Zealand’s Fireworks
The sum that the hosts have put up on the board is enormous. With Finn Allen continuing where he left off yesterday, the hosts had a flying start when they were put in to bat. Although Bangladesh was unable to restrict the scoring rate, he was expelled on the powerplay. With elegant strokes, the consistently reliable Conway scored his sixth T20 fifty.
Guptill initially came off as unsure, but he eventually hit a couple of boundaries and raised his strike rate past 100. A full toss claimed the senior New Zealand hitter, and Glenn Phillips entered. The 25-year-old needed just 19 deliveries to reach his half-ton, and he wasted little time in getting going and hammering boundaries for fun.
Bangladesh’s Failed Attempt (again)
Bangladesh only had one significant partnership when chasing 209, and that came from their captain Shakib, who scored 70. The others simply lagged behind. With 23 apiece, Das and Sarkar fell at the wrong time, allowing New Zealand to win with effective bowling and fielding.
Despite Shakib’s best efforts, the goal was always a little too high. Once more, Bangladesh failed to assist their leader adequately while he fought valiantly against a large target.
What Captains said
New Zealand Captain
Tim Southee the captain of the winning team, New Zealand said. “When you get a score like that on the board, makes it easy in the 2nd innings. Solid batting performance, Devon and Allen. Guptill coming in at an unusual position. As a group we are getting better and better. There are ways to improve as well. We may have been sloppy in the field in the first 10 overs, but the bowlers set the tone and our fielding is something we will be looking at the next few weeks. Pakistan are a very good T20 side and another opportunity to play a big match going into the World Cup.”
Bangladesh Captain
The losing side’s captain, Shakib Al Hasan said. “When you score runs, you feel better. A different pitch to the ones that we played. New Zealand put on a very good total and we were always behind the game, we should’ve scored maybe 15-20 runs more. We kept on losing wickets which cost us the game. If we look at our three games, it’s been the same pattern; after 10 overs, we are losing a wicket every 2 overs, not ideal we are always looking at building an innings instead of chasing.”
“We are not that far [on a settled batting order]. We don’t have many options to be honest, we know what exactly the team will be heading into the World Cup. Team gave all the guys a game so that we understand what will be the best combination at the World Cup. Bangladesh will come here and look to win the game. If we win, it will give us momentum. Tomorrow’s game is a very important game for us.”
There is still one game remaining in this tri-series, and the final will feature Pakistan taking on New Zealand. Bangladesh will play Pakistan tomorrow. The match will have both teams testing out some new strategies ahead of the T20 World Cup.
