Bangladesh won the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2022 defeating Ireland by seven runs in a thrilling final on Sunday. Both sides have already qualified to compete in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa next year.
In the third place match between Zimbabwe and Thailand, Zimbabwe won by 7 runs. The 5th place match between Scotland and PNG, PNG won by 8 wickets. In the 7th place match between UAE and USA, UAE won by 10 wickets.
Bangladesh’s Innings
In the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier final, Bangladesh elected to bat first and achieved a par 120/8, assisted by Fargana Hoque’s 61 off 55 balls. Only one other Bangladeshi batter reached double digits throughout Ireland’s impressive bowling performance.
Fargana contributed slightly more than half of the team’s runs from the top of the order, but she was unable to accelerate significantly as Bangladesh concluded the match on 120/8 with the bat.
With 3/27, Ireland’s skipper Laura Delany led the team’s bowling attack. While Arlene Kelly and Cara Murray both claimed two wickets. In response, Sanjida Akter and Nahida Akter took out the best players on the European side’s top order, reducing Ireland to 24/3.
Ireland’s Innings
Delany and Eimear Richardson made an effort to save Ireland, but Bangladesh scored one more to further sink it. Ireland’s innings gained late pace thanks to Kelly and Murray. The duo helped them climb from 76/8 to within striking distance of the objective.
Ireland’s prospects of winning the qualifiers’ championship were raised by the partnership. 15 runs needed off the final over was still a massive ask. They ultimately fell short by seven runs.
It is planned that the eighth season of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will take place in 2023. It will take place in South Africa. Australia is the reigning world champion. Due to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the event was shifted from its intended date at the end of 2022 to February 2023.
