Most consecutive Tests among active players: Test cricket is the game’s ultimate format. It is one format that quite literally tests a player’s skill, the strength of character, and tenacity. There have been several greats over the years who have played quite a number of Tests. Sachin Tendulkar tops the chart with 200 while there are a few all-timers who have played the most consecutive Tests. Alastair Cook leads the race with 159 consecutive Tests played.

#8 Virat Kohli – 54
He didn’t have the greatest of starts to his Test career. But a ton in Adelaide 2011-12 changed his Test credentials forever. He has been India’s best Test batsman since then. Kohli played a stretch of 54 Tests between 22 November 2011 and 16 March 2017. A shoulder injury broke his streak else he could have easily added more successive Tests to his CV.
#7 David Warner – 55
He is another player who attached a lot of importance to fitness. David Warner’s recent run in Tests might not be promising but he has been a standout opener for the good part of the last decade. He featured in 55 consecutive Tests during the period between 1 August 2013-22 March 2018.
#6 Dean Elgar – 56
He is arguably the last of the old-fashioned Test players. Dean Elgar wears his pride on his sleeve while representing the proteas. He led the side to a famous series win against India. A forgettable Test series down under cost him the captaincy chair. Elgar with 59 successive Tests to his name is sixth on this list.
#5 Steve Smith – 59
He is considered the finest Australian Test batsman after Sir Don Bradman. Steve Smith’s transformation as a batter is one of the more beautiful aspects of our game. He has scored runs across the world in challenging conditions. The batter featured in 59 successive Tests from March 2013 until the ill-fated sandpaper gate Test in March 2018.
#4 Tom Latham – 71
He is one of the most underrated players of the modern generation. Tom Latham has been a terrific asset for the Kiwi side. The southpaw is a giant in home conditions negating tough periods of play by tackling the new ball. He has played an impressive 71 Tests on the trot. Latham’s streak is unbeaten so there is every chance of him pushing for a higher spot on this list.
#3 Kraigg Brathwaite – 73
He is not as flashy as other openers in the world but trust Kraigg Brathwaite to do his thing. His stubborn presence in the crease wears down opposition bowlers. He is a big part of why the West Indies are still in the reckoning in Tests despite not having any star players around. Brathwaite’s unbeaten streak has now seen him play in 73 successive Tests.
#2 Joe Root – 77
He is one of the finest Test batsmen of this century. Joe Root was destined for greatness as soon as he made his Test debut. He has a brilliant appetite for scoring runs. There aren’t many batsmen in the game who are as elegant as Root. The Yorkshire batter has featured in 77 successive Tests between 12 June 2014-24 January 2020.
#1 Nathan Lyon – 95
His teammates call him the GOAT. Nathan Lyon has kept improving as a bowler with every passing season. He has been Australia’s trump card even in conditions that haven’t exactly favoured the spinners. Lyon’s ability to extract bounce from the surface is unique. He has featured in an unbroken streak of 95 successive Tests since August 2013. Lyon will wish to score a well-deserved century on this front.
