Meg Lanning News: The first women’s cricket captain to win a gold medal in the Commonwealth games Meg Lanning has decided to take and break from international cricket due to the workload she is been handling for many months and also some personal reasons.
The Australian captain has achieved multiple titles, including the famous ODI World Cup and the T20 World Cup. Lanning has been busy leading the squad in many victories and has not taken time off for more than two and half years, now after winning the gold in the Commonwealth games, she has decided to take a rest from international cricket for some time.
Australian women’s cricket team was unbeaten in the whole CWG 2022 campaign.
The Australian cricket board has released a statement saying “Meg Lanning will take a period of indefinite leave, effective immediately. Meg has made the decision to take a break from the game for personal reasons, with no timeline set for her return. Cricket Australia (CA) and our team wholeheartedly support Meg’s decision, and wish her all the best.”
Cricket Australia has even decided to appreciate the efforts of the captain and said in a statement, “We’re proud of Meg for acknowledging that she needs a break and will continue to support her during this time. She’s been an incredible contributor to Australian cricket over the last decade, achieving remarkable feats both individually and as part of the team, and has been a brilliant role model for young kids.”
Even Meg Lanning also said in a statement, “After a busy couple of years, I’ve made the decision to take a step back to enable me to spend time focusing on myself. I’m grateful for the support of CA and my teammates and ask that my privacy is respected during this time.”
Australian women’s cricket Head of performance, Shawn Flegler was even seen appreciating and supporting the decision of the Australian captain to take some time off from the cricket and come back even stronger, he was quoted saying “The welfare of our players is always our number one priority, and we’ll continue to work with Meg to ensure she gets the support and space she needs.”
