In a convocation ceremony, the Ecole Superieure Robert de Sorbon, a famous university in France, awarded legendary Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh an honorable Ph.D. in Sports. The 41-year-old was unable to attend the ceremony since he is now in the United Arab Emirates supporting the KKR in the IPL 2021. In this article we have discussed about why French University Confers Harbhajan.

Harbhajan Singh, who was born in Jalandhar, had to warm the benches in the UAE leg of the IPL 2021 because KKR selected Sunil Narine, Shakib Al Hasan, and Varun Chakravarthy as spin-bowling alternatives. In terms of Harbhajan’s degree, the institution awards doctorates to well-known individuals, including those from the sports world.

“If any institution accords respect, you accept that with utmost humility. If I have been conferred with honorary sports doctorate by the university, it is because I played cricket and people have showered their love and affection for that. I am honored to be conferred with the degree,” said Harbhajan.

Harbhajan also conveyed his pleasure to the jury that chose him

Harbhajan’s name was proposed to the university by Dr. Harcharan Singh Ranauta, vice-president of the Indian Federation of United Nations Associations (IFUNA). Harbhajan also conveyed his pleasure to the jury that chose him.

“I would like to thank Dr. John Thomas Parade, president Sorbon, Dr. Vivek Choudhury, chairman, Sorbon International Convocation Committee (Celebrity), Dr. Mukesh Tyagi, Sorbon International Convocation Committee, for finding me worthy enough,” he added.

Harbhajan has featured 3 matches in the current IPL but has yet to take a wicket. He has surrendered 63 runs at an economy rate of 9 in 7 overs. Harbhajan was chosen by the Men in Gold and Purple in February at a base price of INR 2 crores.

Harbhajan Singh is still regarded as one of the finest spinners India has ever produced. In 2001 March, Harbhajan was the first Indian Bowler to bag a hat-trick in Test cricket. He accomplished the feat versus Australia in Kolkata’s famous Eden Gardens.

Harbhajan Singh took 711 wickets for Team India in his international career, including 28 five-wicket hauls and 5 ten-wicket hauls. He was also impressed with the batting, having scored 2 hundred and 9 half-centuries, with the best score of 115.
