West Indies Fined For A Slow Over-Rate Against Sri Lanka In The First ODI

West Indies Fined For Slow Over-Rate

In the ongoing West Indies tour of Sri Lanka, the West Indies have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate in the first ODI match against Sri Lanka in Colombo. They are charged with 40% of their match fee.

The ICC match referee Javagal Srinath imposed the penalty after the West Indies team was ruled to be two overs short of the target after considering the time allotment.

ICC Code Of Conduct

Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for players and player support personnel relates to the minimum over-rate offenses. According to the article, players are fined 20% of their match fees for every over their team fails to bowl in the assigned time.

The West Indies skipper accepted the penalty so there was no need for formal hearing further. Ruchira Palliyaguruge and Paul Wilson who were the on-field umpires during the match, third umpire Marais Erasmus and fourth official Lyndon Hannibal leveled the charges.

West Indies Performance In The Match

The West Indies squad didn’t have the greatest of times on the field too apart from the penalty.  The team lost the toss and was invited to bat first. They managed to score a decent 289 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 50-over quota.

Shai hope hit a century in 140 balls and scored 115 runs, and Darren Bravo made 39 off 52. Roston Chase missed the half-century and made a score of 41 runs in 45 balls. The rest of the Carribean players failed to show any highlight performance.

Some boundaries from Keemo Paul and Hayden Walsh Jr took the team forward during the death overs in the match. They scored 32 and 20 runs respectively.
