International Hundred Of Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer scored his maiden international hundred on Wednesday against New Zealand. And continuing his good form and claiming the highly contested no.4 spot in the India ODI team.
He first began in a careful way to avoid getting out, scoring 15 runs in the first 29 balls he faced. It was a period in which the game was uncertain. But as the innings passes, Iyer became more confident.
He then moved slowly to his hundred off 101 deliveries. Later, his 107 runs which came from 103 balls helped his team to set a target of 348 runs. He was eventually dismissed with an innings decorated with 11 fours and a six.
Shreyas Iyer’s Past Records
Last month in Auckland, Iyer scored a run of 58 in 29 balls which were totally match-winning in his first T20I away from home. In the five-match series for India, he emerged as the second-highest run-scorer with 153 runs and an average of 51.
He is maturing into a responsible middle-order batsman with his past experience and his batting innings of 70 and 53 in the ODI series against the West Indies last year create witness to that.
Iyer thinks that control comes with maturity and responsibility. He feels he was an energetic and vibrant player when he started playing First-Class cricket and used to just back my instincts and go with the flow.
Lately, he realized that when a player plays at the highest level, he has to play according to what the team demands.
Easing Into No.4 Spot
At No. 4 position in ODI cricket, India has tried out as many as 14 players since the 2015 World Cup.
Ambati Rayudu, Yuvraj Singh, M. S. Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Ajinkya Rahane, Dinesh Karthik, K. L. Rahul, Manish Pandey, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Manoj Tiwary, Vijay Shankar, and Kedar Jadhav are the players who tried to play at that position.
But Iyer, with the attacking pattern and personality, is easing into this position will please the Indian team management.
