Physical Fitness Necessary Among Cricketing Players : Ab De Villiers

Coronavirus Scare Continues To Haunt Cricketing World:

Even as the world is ravaged by the coronavirus pandemic, a burning question in the minds of every cricket fanatic is whether AB de Villiers will actually come out of retirement and represent the country in the World T20 scheduled to play in Australia later this year. While there have been quite a few views on the subject, the former South African skipper is keen to pursue the strategy of ‘ wait and see ‘ rather than make a comment.

De Villiers said he’s taking it slowly, only after playing the Indian Premier League and then decide what’s possible and what’s not.

“Wait and see what’s going on. I’m actually focused on the Indian Premier League and helping Royal Challengers Bangalore understand our full potential, and then we’ll sit down and look at the rest of the year and see what’s possible,” he explained.

Nevertheless, owing to the coronavirus outbreak the fate of the 13th season of the IPL hangs in balance. Even while the BCCI and the IPL franchises leave no stones unturned to ensure the tournament is played, it will all rely on calls from the Indian government and the health department.

Ab De Villiers Retirement Shocked His Fans:

De Villiers shocked the cricketing world by announcing his retirement in May 2018 and although he said back then that he wanted to leave while still playing respectable cricket, one argument he always maintained specifically was how exhausted he was thanks to the hectic cricketing calendar. And that’s something that even Virat Kohli’s likes have taken up in recent times.

Although the South African believes that workload management is a personal decision, he does agree that due to the non-stop cricket action, the mental and physical pressure on the top stars is enormous.

“Every player needs to weigh his own situation and make his own decision. I have reached a point where I wanted to see more of my wife and two young sons and try a fair balance between family and cricket. Mental and physical pressures on the leading players these days are enormous, but each player has to determine what they can and can’t do,” he said.

Though De Villiers has left international cricket, he’s continued to play around the globe in T20 leagues and the kind of fitness he’s shown at the age of 36 can shame even the young. But it’s all about discipline for the former national-team captain.

“Discipline is the secret. It is incredibly important to eat well and daily exercise. It becomes a habit. Eat well, have a good lifestyle and it’s not hard at all,” he signed off.
