Lance Klusener To Step Down As Afghanistan’s Head Coach After December

Former South African all-rounder, Lance Klusener has opted not to renew his contract as Afghanistan’s head coach. Following Afghanistan’s World Cup performance in England and Wales, Klusener was named in September 2019 to replace West Indies’ Phil Simmons. Klusener stated at the time that he is glad and delighted to accept the position. Here is When Will Klusener Step Down As Afghanistan’s Head Coach

Klusener’s agreement with the Afghan team expires on December 31st. Klusener voiced thanks after serving more than 2 years with the Asian team, and he also conveyed confidence about his future coaching endeavours.

“Having spent two years with the team, I will take away some memorable moments with me. As I walk away from Afghanistan cricket team and its cricketing structure, I look forward to the next stage in my coaching career and opportunities it brings,” Klusener was quoted as saying in a press conference on Monday, November 29.

Over the previous 2 years, the Afghans have performed admirably under Klusener’s leadership. They won one Test, 3 One-Day Internationals, and 9 Twenty20 Internationals. They also defeated Ireland and the West Indies in a series. Afghanistan recently competed in 2021 T20 WC in Oman and the UAE.

Despite failing to qualify for the semi-finals, Mohammad Nabi and team did not entirely deceive. During their first Super 12, they thrashed Scotland by 130 runs, courtesy of Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s five-wicket haul. In their next match, the Afghans provided Pakistan a fight for their money until Asif Ali’s powerful hits earned them a victory.

Following that, they overcame Namibia by keeping their opponent’s total below 100. While Najibullah Zadran got a half-century versus NZ, the Afghans were delighted, yet his efforts failed.

Klusener was regarded as one of the most effective all-rounders South Africa had ever made. He scored 1906 runs in 49 Tests and 3576 runs in 171 One-Day Internationals. He also took 272 wickets for the SA over his 8-year tenure with the team, which covered 1996 to 2004.
