Why India’s Tour Of Sri Lanka Has Been Postponed
The two sides are scheduled to play six white-ball games at Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium under closed doors beginning 13’ July, 3-ODIs and as many T20Is. But the positive instances in the Lankan camp have put the series at risk for the time being. The series has been rescheduled, with ODIs on July (17, 19, and 21) and T20Is on July (24, 25, and 27) respectively. Furthermore, the group will be placed in isolation for a prolonged time.
The 3 ODIs were planned to be played between July (13 to 18) at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, followed by the 3 T20Is from July (21 to 25) respectively.
On July 8, just a day before GT Niroshan tested positive, Sri Lanka’s batting coach Grant Flower returned a positive test as the SLC conducted testing for all players, support staff members, and coaches according to government standards.
Source For Viral Attack On Sri Lankan Members Is Unidentified
Whereas the source of the viral infection for Sri Lankan board members is unidentified, it is thought that a possible way to occur mostly during the team’s tour for England, when 7- members, 3-players and other support staff, tested COVID-19 positive, prompting the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to replace a new 18-man team for the Pakistan ODI series.
The squad players and support personnel have been ordered to self-isolate since returning to their nation following the England tour. The SLC advised the team and the members not to leave their rooms until further information, as Flower caught the virus.
During the same series, 3 Sri Lankan players, vice-captain Kusal Mendis, batsman Danushka Gunathilaka, wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella, were detected violating the team’s bio-secure bubble after they were shot by a Durham photographer, prompting SLC to quickly take them back to Sri Lanka.
