“I think the fault lies with both” Shahid Afridi on Amir-PCB Feud

On Thursday, Pakistan’s Mohammad Amir called it a quits from all formats of international cricket. The following decision created a lot of headlines as the 28-year-old pacer was currently at the peak of his career, especially in T20I cricket. Mohammad Amir blamed Pakistan management for his shocking and impulsive decision. The southpaw accused the PCB of mentally torturing him and pressurizing him into taking this call.

Shahid Afridi opens up on Mohammad Amir’s retirement news

Pakistani veteran Shahid Afridi has now shared his views in the Mohammad Amir-retirement saga. Former Pakistan’s skipper Shahid Afridi, while speaking with Geo News, stated that both Amir and PCB are at fault. Afridi was in a daze as to why the PCB and Amir didn’t solve this issue beforehand than discussing it in front of the media. Shahid Afridi opined that Amir should have a sit down with Pakistan’s management to talk out the solvable matter.

“I think the fault lies with both (Mohammad Amir and the PCB),” said Afridi. “However, if the elders [PCB management] had not started [the row], the younger one would not get the chance to say anything.” “They should sit together and talk, it is an easy case,” he said. Afridi Later added that Amir’s decision of retiring from international cricket was a bit harsh. 45-year-old Afridi believes that a strong player never backs down from a challenge. “I would like to support young players but I believe it is still T20 and One Day International cricket still left in Mohammad Amir,” said the former captain.

Shahid Afridi, when questioned whether it was Amir’s fault to announce retirement from Test cricket last year despite being selected in the team, said there was nothing like playing for the national team. “I would like to tell Amir that nothing feels quite like the pride [you feel] when playing for the star,” he said. “No doubt, I think Mohammad Amir should think about this clearly and you should play league cricket but if you can, make a comeback and play for the nation.”

Shahid Afridi also took at jab at PCB’s response to Amir’s retirement. The legendary all-rounder believes that PCB has made their mind to “sideline Amir”. “It was not handled well, the PCB should have discussed its plan with Mohammad Amir,” Afridi said.
