Highlights: IND vs ENG Test-3 Day-1 (India Leads 1-0)

The opening day of the Headingley Test involving England and India has seen a lot of progress. Is it true that Virat Kohli surviving the toss was the one good thing that could possibly happen to the visitors?  He made no concerns about batting first, and the experienced bowler James Anderson then put on a masterful display of swing delivery. By the conclusion of the day, India had fallen well behind in the Test, while England had taken command. Here is IND vs ENG Test-3 Day-1 Highlights.

IND vs ENG Test-3 Day-1 Highlights

It all began when KL Rahul attempted a drive in the opening over, only to have it edged to the wicketkeeper, Jos Buttler. Anderson bowled brilliantly, making the ball speak before dismissing Cheteshwar Pujara as well as Virat Kohli to reduce India to 21/3. The defense of Rohit Sharma was solid at the time, and Ajinkya Rahane partnered him to restore the innings.

For 15 overs, the pair held off the aggressive England bowlers, and just as things were starting to calm down, Rahane pushed for one when on 18. Mostly on another side of the lunch break, the wicket sparked a breakdown, with India losing their remaining wickets for only 21 runs.

Hardly Rohit and Rahane reached double digits

The batters performed terrible strokes, often dangling the bat just outside of the off-stump for easy shots, so there was little to cheer about. Following Anderson’s brilliant start, the remainder of the bowlers, Ollie Robinson, Craig Overton, and Sam Curran, didn’t give India a chance and continued hitting regularly.

India never returned from the early setbacks and were bowled out for 78 runs in the final 41 overs of the day. Hardly Rohit and Rahane reached double digits, while 3 batters were dismissed for ducks.

India definitely required quick wickets to get any hope of mounting a comeback. They were well aware that England’s top 3 were under immense strain following the events of the previous match. Unfortunately, Ishant Sharma’s opening over, which was packed with wides and no-balls, hinted that they were in for a difficult day. The opposition was effectively neutralized by Haseeb Hameed and Rory Burns, England’s had a great opening combination.

To make a recovery in this Test Team India must bowl really effectively

The combo batted and missing a couple of balls, but they made the most of the greatest batting circumstances available. Owing to India’s dismal batting performance earlier in the day, their bowlers appeared a little off-color. Burns and Hameed, who battled brilliantly, deserve praise as well. Playing the ball on the backfoot and hitting with grace, the latter showed his expertise.

Burns, as usual, hammered outruns the hard way, while he scored runs square of the wicket. Late in the day, Jasprit Bumrah produced an opportunity for India, but Rohit Sharma missed Hameed at the 2nd slip. The ball flew to the boundary, bringing up the opener’s 50.

Both England openers were unbeaten to stumps, finishing the day on 120/0, with a first-inning advantage of 42 runs. To make a recovery in this Test, the visiting will need to bowl really effectively in the opening session on Day 2, otherwise, it might be another difficult day and Test for them.
