T20i sensation Chris Gayle has backed out from the inaugural season of Lankan Premier League (LPL 2020). The legendary West Indian was all-set to play for the Kandy Tuskers but later changed his decision just three days before the season’s opener. Kandy Tuskers announced this news on their Twitter account on Wednesday. Kandy Tuskers’ season went from bad to worse even before it started as England’s Liam Plunkett also pulled out his name from Lankan Premier League 2020.

In-form Chris Gayle Wants a Time-out
41-year-old Chris Gayle looked in fine form while playing for IPL franchise KXIP earlier this year. The “Universal Boss” still has a lot of cricket left in him and Kandy Tuskers will surely miss his presence in the squad. Gayle recently became the first batsman in the world to score 1000 sixes in T20 cricket.

Chris Gayle is not included in West Indies’ squad which will face New Zealand in their upcoming tour. The Southpaw’s decision to miss the Sri Lankan tournament came as a surprise considering the time in his hand after being out of the WI’s team. Lankan Premier League is facing all sorts of problems before the commencement of their first season.
Several players have backed out from the league following LPL’s unorganized contract and payment structure. LPL is scheduled to kick-off on November 21 with Colombo Kings going head-to-head against Galle Gladiators at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium.

The league will host doubleheaders every day till the semi-finals. Galle Gladiators, Colombo Kings, Dambulla Hawks, Jaffna Stallions, and Kandy Tuskers are the five teams participating in the league. The two semi-finals will be played on 13th and 14th December respectively. 30 overseas players are expected to feature in the Lankan Premier League 2020.
