Shoaib Akhtar Suggests That Rohit Sharma Should Share Captaincy With Virat Kohli

Former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar recently stated that Virat Kohli should share the role of captaincy with Rohit Sharma if he is feeling too worked-up because of the job. Rohit Sharma recently directed Mumbai Indians to their fifth IPL trophy in the latest editions of the Dream11 series.

Rohit Sharma’s recent success in the T20 format has raised many debates about him replacing Virat Kohli as India’s T20i’s captain. Citing the latest India’s split-captaincy debate, Akhtar stated that the Australian tour is the perfect time for Rohit to take over the captaincy of the Indian national team.

Shoaib Akhtar Backs Rohit Sharma for Split-Captaincy

45-year-old Shoaib Akhtar, while speaking to PTI, claimed that Virat Kohli looks tired and ‘fatigued’ from playing non-stop cricket since 2010. Akhtar advised that Virat Kohli should consider weighing down the load from his shoulder by letting Rohit Sharma lead in one of the ICC formats.

Shoaib Akhtar further stated that Virat Kohli looked bored while captaining RCB in Dream11 IPL 2020. The Pakistani legend added that it might be due to the bio-bubble situation but the 32-year-old Indian skipper looked stressed out during India’s top-tier club competition.

“From what I know Virat is very keen to take the team forward. It all depends on how fatigued he is feeling. He has been playing non-stop since 2010, has got 70 centuries and a mountain of runs under his belt. If he is feeling fatigued, then he should think about giving the leadership role to Rohit is one of the formats (preferably T20s),” PTI quoted Shoaib Akhtar.

Shoaib Akhtar backed Rohit Sharma to emerge as a successful captain of India if and when he is given a chance. However, MI’s skipper was dropped from India’s squad for their upcoming Australian tour due to his injuries. Season campaigner Rohit Sharma was not included in India’s limited-overs squad for the upcoming Australian tour due to his recent injuries.
However, Rohit Sharma has been named in the Test’s squad as Virat Kohli’s replacement for the last three Test matches. BCCI is yet to come to the decision on whether who will lead the Indian side in the Test in the absence of Virat Kohli. It can be either Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane or senior player Rohit Sharma.
